Second Trimester Must-Haves

08/25/2018

Sorry for the lack of posting as of late. My husband and I have been super busy trying to prepare for our little one arriving in just two months! I can’t believe it! This pregnancy has flown by. Which is why I am just now writing about my second trimester essentials and must-haves. I felt pretty great in my second trimester (as most moms do). I had more energy and my nausea and meat aversion completely went away once I hit the second trimester. Also, my belly was just starting to make an appearance so I wasn’t super uncomfortable yet and I was able to travel to Europe. These are the items that I found myself reaching for time and time again during my second trimester.

Prenatal Yoga

I started adding prenatal yoga into my normal workout routine and it made a world of a difference with my lower back pain. Prenatal yoga is great for your hips, strengthening your pelvic floor, and lower back stretches. I just You-Tubed prenatal yoga and would pick a video depending on how long I wanted my yoga workout to be. I also found it to be really helpful with calming my anxious mind and allowing me to focus on what feels good for my body and for my growing baby bump. This is a great yoga mat if you don’t already have one.

Compression Socks

I recently started wearing compression socks and it makes a world of a difference. I always wear compression socks at work and started wearing them on planes as well. At work, they prevent my legs from aching after a 12-hour shift and prevent varicose veins. Long flights can also cause deep vein thrombosis or blood clots in the legs due to long air travel in cramped spaces. Wearing compression socks can significantly reduce that risk and also minimize leg swelling. This brand offers really cute patterns and colors. Planning on traveling while pregnant? Check out my other travel essentials here.

Bringing Up Bebe

Even though I’m going to be a first time mom and I have no idea how hard/easy it will be to implement some of the things that Pamela Druckerman speaks about in Bringing Up Bebe, I still found the read to be informative, enlightening, and entertaining. I am excited to try out some of the French parenting methods mentioned in this book like “waiting” just a few minutes to let babies readjust themselves in between their sleep cycles rather than picking them up right after they begin to make noise and implementing a regular eating schedule. Who knows what I’ll actually do when the time comes but nonetheless this was a fun read.

Belly Bandit Belly Support Belt

In the second trimester, I finally felt healthy enough to workout again but the bigger my belly got, the harder it was to continue to workout. This belly support belt from Target helped me out so much. According to the product description, it’s designed to help support your back, lift the belly, and stabilize the pelvic region. I wear this belt when I do cardio such as light jogging and incline walking and it helps with bladder pressure, posture, and overall discomfort. It’s become even more essential as I’ve progressed through my third trimester as well. It even comes with an insert that can be heated or cooled to provide ultimate relief and I have a feeling that will come super handy during the next two months.

Glow Organics Organic Bath Soak

Lukewarm baths were my jam in the second trimester as well as now in my third. It is is nice to soak in the water and feel the tension in your joints melt away. I received this bath soak in one of my Bump Boxes from my mom and it is amazing. Not only does it smell amazing, it’s specially formulated for pregnancy and breastfeeding moms with organic essential oils and a special salt mixture to alleviate swelling & pain. Also, the lavender scent puts me in such a relaxed state of mind.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Tummy Butter & Stretch Mark Massage Lotion

I really started to show after about 20 weeks and even though I’ve been using a stretch mark cream since the first trimester, I doubled down and added on this tummy butter for nighttime and so far no dreaded tiger stripes. I know research shows that stretch marks are genetic and there may be nothing I can do to prevent them but I figured it can’t hurt to be oiled up and moisturized. I use the massage lotion during the day because it’s lighter weight and the tummy butter at night since it’s a bit greasier and stickier. I’ll have to do an end of pregnancy update but so far I’m loving the results.

Maternity Clothes

Second trimester was when I really had to invest in some maternity pieces. I tried purchasing basic pieces that I could use over and over again and for future pregnancies and then I did purchase some cuter pieces for nights out, weddings, and traveling. Some of my favorite places to pick up maternity clothes are Motherhood Maternity, Target, Asos Maternity, and Naked Wardrobe.

BabyList

I started registering during my second trimester and found myself wanting a way to register at all of the cute boutiques and instagram shops I came across. Enter BabyList. On BabyList you can register from any store, big or small, and it’s all kept one list. You can even add non-material gifts like favors, home-cooked meals, or set up a cash fund for your Babymoon or to start a savings account for your little one. It’s seriously so convenient and with one button you can add items you see online onto your registry. This post is in no way sponsored by them I’ve just had a great experience so far.

And that’s it. The things/items that helped make my second trimester that much more enjoyable. To all you mamas out there, what are some of your pregnancy must-haves?
